The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution as heavy rainfall has left several major roads flooded on Saturday.
According to the provincial department spokesperson, Alpheus Koonyaditse, sections of the N18 outside Mahikeng near Uplands and the N12 between Stilfontein and Klerksdorp are currently submerged, creating hazardous driving conditions.
Koonyaditse said in a statement that the Traffic officers have been deployed to assist motorists and monitor the situation.
“The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and Sanral are also assessing the affected routes as rainfall continues in parts of the province”, he said
Motorists have since been advised to avoid flooded areas, reduce speed and follow instructions from officials on site.
News Junction previously reported that the South African Weather Service (SAWS) had issued a Level 9 warning for North West.
