NORTH WEST BUSINESS MAN NABBED AT AIRPORT BEFORE FLIGHT

Staff Writer / Fri, 16 October 2026

A North West businessman and former ANC treasurer in the province was allegedly stopped in his tracks just moments before boarding an international flight.

Suliman Carrim , 49, was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday evening, 15 October, for allegedly failing to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. It’s alleged that he was bound for UAE. Carrim has been implicated in corruption and dodgy dealings with Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), members of the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team (CRTT) swooped on Carrim as he was about to leave the country.

The businessman is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 16 October.

In a statement, SAPS confirmed that the arrest took place shortly before Currim was due to board an international flight.

However, police did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding his alleged failure to appear before the commission.

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is investigating allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption within the criminal justice system.

Currim is expected to face court proceedings over the matter. He remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
