As a result, his departure from the police service is regarded as a dishonourable discharge, according to the SAPS.
“The SAPS confirms that Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya’s employment with the Service has been terminated with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The disciplinary hearing sat on Monday morning, but Sibiya’s resignation came before the proceedings could continue.
The SAPS did not provide further details about the disciplinary charges against the former senior officer in its statement.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe is the police contact for media enquiries.
