Top cop checks security in Soweto

TOP police brass are keeping a close eye on the security situation in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
Acting National Commissioner of the SAPS Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane is expected to assess the security situation in Soweto tonight.

The visit comes as police step up operational measures to maintain law and order, protect communities and respond to emerging security threats.
According to SAPS, Dimpane will outline the measures being put in place to deal with the security situation and ensure that communities remain protected.
SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that Dimpane would conduct the assessment and provide an update to the media.
The Acting National Commissioner is expected to provide further details following the assessment.
The briefing is scheduled for 8pm in Soweto, with the exact venue to be confirmed by Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
Dimpane has previously stressed the need for intelligence-led policing and decisive action against serious and violent criminals.
In September, she also praised Gauteng police for swiftly arresting a suspect linked to the murder of a woman whose body was found at Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa.
