MURDER SUSPECT FOUND DEAD

The man suspected of killing 23-year-old Boitumelo Gift Mashita was found dead inside his car hours after her murder.

Boitumelo was allegedly shot dead during a robbery in Temong, Mapungubwe Street, Thembisa, at about 5.45am on Monday, 28 September.

She was reportedly on her way to work when she was attacked. Her belongings were allegedly taken during the incident.

Police later linked her estranged husband to the murder and identified him as a person of interest.

The SAPS Tembisa Tracking Team was tracing him when they received a report from Midrand police that his vehicle had been found within their policing precinct, with his body inside.

According to police, it is believed he may have ingested an unknown substance.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said no foul play was suspected at this stage.

“A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” said Muridili.

Midrand police are expected to register an inquest case.

Police said Boitumelo’s family was still being formally notified at the time of the initial investigation.

Muridili said preliminary investigations had not established any link between Boitumelo’s murder and recent cases involving the bodies of women found in Ekurhuleni.

“No one has been arrested yet and the police are following up on leads,” police said.
