Case against ANC politician heads to regional court

MATLOSANA CITY MMC FOR LED WESLEY KGANG APPEARS AT MATLOSANA TRAFFIC ON WED,23 SEP 2026

Matlosana City Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Local Economic Development, Wesley Kgang, is set to stand trial in the Klerksdorp Regional Court in the North West following months of postponements in his case.

Kgang appeared in the Matlosana Traffic Court on Wednesday, 23 September, where state prosecutor Beyers Barnard informed Magistrate Jerry Maleka that the matter had been transferred to the Regional Court.

Barnard said the State had obtained five statements and would prepare supplementary evidence ahead of Kgang’s first appearance in the Regional Court on 7 October.

Magistrate Maleka postponed the matter and extended Kgang’s R1 000 bail.

Speaking outside court, Kgang said he welcomed the progress in the matter.

“We are happy because we think we are moving somewhere and finally the prosecution has said they will hear our matter on the 7th of October for the first appearance in the Klerksdorp Regional Court.”

He said he was looking forward to presenting his case.

“We have been asking for our day where we will present our case and put the matter to rest. We are of the view that when we emanate from that other side or other court, we will have refreshing news and outcome. We are quite confident on that.”

Kgang said he was still awaiting clarity on the final charges.

“We are told resisting arrest and I am not sure of the second charge. So we will cross that bridge when we get to the Regional Court.”

His lawyer, Kgotso Baloyi, previously accused the State of prejudicing his client through repeated postponements and questioned the introduction of additional charges.

The original charge of driving under the influence of alcohol was withdrawn, while charges of bribery and malicious damage to property were later added.

The prosecution previously told the court that further evidence had emerged during the investigation, resulting in changes to the case.

Kgang was arrested in January and released on R1 000 bail. His matter has been postponed at least eight times.

He is expected back in court on 7 October for his first appearance in the Klerksdorp Regional Court.
