A promising young javelin athlete from Klerksdorp is appealing for financial support to enable her to compete at the upcoming South African National Championships in Cape Town.
Twelve-year-old Bontle Mwale, a learner at Laerskool Saamtrek, has been selected to represent North West in the Under-12 javelin event at the championships scheduled for 19 to 21 March 2026.
Mwale secured her place in the national competition after finishing first at the provincial championships, making her the top Under-12 javelin athlete in the North West province.

However, her participation in the national event now depends on whether she can raise enough funds to travel to the competition.
The young athlete says she is excited about the opportunity to test herself against the country’s best young competitors.
“I feel proud to represent my school, community and North West province. Competing at nationals will help me grow as an athlete and move closer to my dream of representing South Africa internationally one day,” she said.
According to her family, about R15 000 is required to cover flights, accommodation and other travel costs associated with the trip.
Bontle’s mother, Mathabo Mwale, says the family is proud of the young athlete’s commitment and discipline.
“Seeing her become the number one Under-12 javelin athlete in North West makes us very proud. Competing at nationals would mean the world to her because she has worked very hard for this opportunity,” she said.
The family has now appealed to community members, businesses and potential sponsors to assist in helping Bontle realise her dream of competing at the national championships.
Anyone willing to assist can contact the family on 083 872 1915 or 078 275 6645.
Donations can also be made via FNB (FNBY Transact Account) to assist with Bontle’s competition expenses before the championships begin next week.
