North West cop killed in N12 crash

The North West police are reeling following the death of a constable who died in a tragic crash while travelling in a state vehicle on the N12.

Constable Shalone Shandrey Meyer (37) died when a police vehicle crashed into a tree on the N12 near Stilfontein early on Wednesday morning, 11 March 2026.

North West police spokeswoman Adéle Myburgh confirmed the incident.

Myburgh said four police officers were travelling in a state Nissan Lavina when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

“Four members were travelling in a state motor vehicle when the driver lost control and the vehicle collided with a tree. Constable Meyer, who was a passenger, was declared dead at the scene by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services,” she said.

She added that three other officers two men and one woman aged between 24 and 33 were seriously injured in the crash.

“The three injured members were airlifted to a hospital in Gauteng for medical treatment after sustaining serious injuries,” said Myburgh.

Meanwhile, the Acting police Provincial Commissioner Ryno Naidoo expressed sadness over the tragic loss and conveyed condolences to the deceased officer’s family, friends and colleagues.

Police are expected to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.
