An ANC councillor from Matlosana Local Municipality in the North West has been stabbed to death.
Councillor Molefi Sello, a Ward 24 representative from Kanana near Orkney, was attacked in the early hours of Friday morning.
North West police spokesperson Adéle Myburgh confirmed that the incident occurred on Voortrekker Street in Klerksdorp at about 5am on Friday, 13 February 2026.
According to Myburgh, Sello, who was in his early 40s, sustained a stab wound to his upper body and was declared dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS).
“Klerksdorp police have opened a murder case for investigation. At this stage, investigations are continuing,” she said.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the Klerksdorp Police Station, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit anonymous tips via the MySAPS application.
Police investigations into these cases are ongoing.
