Two people were killed and several others injured following a fatal road accident that led to the closure of Barrage Road near Berry Farm on Saturday, 07 morning.
According to emergency services spokesperson Sipho Towa vehicle overturned under circumstances that are still being investigated. Two occupants were declared dead at the scene, while four others sustained injuries of varying severity.
One patient was critically injured, two sustained moderate injuries, and another suffered slight injuries. The injured were stabilised on scene before being transported to various medical facilities for further treatment.
The patients were taken to Parys Hospital in Parys, Fezi Ngubentombi Hospital in Sasolburg, and Emfuleni Medi-Clinic in Vanderbijlpark.
Emergency responders and relevant authorities remain on the scene as recovery operations continue. The road has been closed to traffic to allow for investigations and the safe removal of the vehicle.
FS RIMS chairperson and spokesperson Sipho Towa confirmed the incident and urged motorists to avoid the area.
