The family of a 74-year-old man from Sasolburg in the Free State has made a passionate plea to the public to help locate him after he went missing earlier this week.

The man, identified as Johan Fourie, allegedly left his home on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, at about 11:30, driving a black Toyota RunX en route to Rustenburg, where he was expected to visit his sons.

According to police, Fourie never arrived at his destination. At approximately 18:00 on the same day, his partner contacted his sons to confirm his safe arrival, only to discover that he had not reached Rustenburg.

Police spokesperson Josephine Rani said information received indicates that Fourie may have been seen in Orkney, outside Klerksdorp in the Matlosana Local Municipality, North West.

“According to information received, it is further alleged by Johan’s sister that he was seen in Orkney. Family members have since tried to contact him, but without success,” Rani said.

She added that Fourie was last seen wearing black formal trousers, a black-and-blue shirt, and black tekkies (sneakers). He wears spectacles and has false teeth.

Sasolburg detectives have urged anyone with information regarding Johan Fourie’s whereabouts to contact Detective Sergeant Patricia Filda on 083 715 2545, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or to submit an anonymous tip-off via the MySAPS App.
