A 27-year-old police constable stationed at Phokeng Police Station in the North West has been granted R5,000 bail after appearing in the Phokeng Magistrate’s Court in Rustenburg on Monday, 22 December 2025, on a charge of rape.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson, Lizzy Suping, said the constable is accused of raping a 31-year-old woman who had approached the police station for assistance in resolving a domestic dispute with her partner.

Suping said the alleged incident occurred on 2 December 2025 when the constable was attending to a complaint involving the complainant and her boyfriend, both of whom are foreign nationals. The officer allegedly released the boyfriend to go home and fetch his passport, while keeping the woman behind at the police station.

“It is alleged that the accused then took the complainant to an office within the police station premises, where he raped her,” Suping said.

She said IPID took over the investigation on 11 December 2025, following the serious nature of the allegations against the police officer.

“The accused was later positively identified by the complainant during an identity parade,” Suping added.

The matter has been postponed to 26 February 2026 for further investigation.
