The controversial former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) chief executive, Lucky Montana, has resigned as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

In a brief statement, the MK Party National Spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, said it the party noted and accepted Montana’s resignation from the National Assembly (NA).

Montana, who was deployed to Parliament after the 2024 general elections, served on the party’s parliamentary caucus.

His resignation comes a few hours after Duduzile Sambudla-Zuma who is the daughter of MK party President and former South African President Jacob Zuma also resigned.

The party said Montana’s departure comes after a period in which he played a role in strengthening its structures and contributing to its legislative work.

Describing him as a steady and principled figure, the MK Party said his leadership had inspired younger MPs and activists within the movement.

“His service to the movement and to the people of South Africa has been marked by loyalty, courage and unwavering conviction,” Ndhlela said in a statement.

Despite his resignation from Parliament, the MK Party said Montana remains a committed member of the organisation.
