The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State is mourning the passing of its councillor, Dalena Dennis. The party announced the 73-year-old’s passing on 30 November 2025. In a statement, the DA expressed deep sorrow at her loss, remembering her as a dedicated public representative, a respected colleague and a compassionate leader. Dennis was also fluent in Sesotho and embraced multiculturalism.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our friend and colleague, Councillor Dalena Dennis. Our condolences go out to her family, friends and local colleagues,” the party said. “We cherish her great leadership, friendship and mentorship. May peace be with her family, friends and community.”

Social media users and party members also shared heartfelt tributes, describing Dennis as a pillar in their lives and a guiding force within the community.
Former Mangaung Speaker, Maryke Davies, described Dennis as a “mother” to them. “Our hearts are broken! She was amazing and truly a mother who groomed all of us to love everyone, no matter your background,” Davies said.
