The ANC in the Free State is pushing ahead with its reshuffle plan across troubled ANC led municipalities in the province.
The party wants to fire municipal Troikas across several troubled municipalities. According to leaked letter ANC Provincial Secretary, Polediso Motsoeneng, he has since directed Lejweleputswa regional leadership to urgently submit new mayoral candidates as part of a sweeping governance overhaul.
In a letter dated 24 November 2025 Motsoeneng informed Lejweleputswa Regional Secretary Mogomotsi Riet that the party’s National Officials have granted approval for the redeployment of multiple mayors affected by the restructuring process.
Motsoeneng instructed the region to urgently convene its Regional Executive Committee (REC) to recommend three mayoral candidates per municipality, in order of preference, for the Lejweleputswa District, Nala Local Municipality, and Masilonyana Local Municipality.
The recommendations, along with candidate CVs, must be submitted to the Provincial Secretary’s Office by Thursday, 27 November 2025 at 12:00.
The reshuffle forms part of the ANC’s efforts to restore stability and improve service delivery in municipalities plagued by leadership instability and administrative failures.
Municipalities such as Masilonyana have been plunged into chaos with the municipality failing to deliver mere basic services to the residents. The municipality has also come under heavy scrutiny for the alleged rife maladministration, fraud and corruption.
