The Klerksdorp based Matlosana Local Municipality in the North West has issued a flood warning for residents living in downstream and low-lying areas along the riverbanks, following the opening of five sluice gates at the Vaal Dam yesterday.
According to Municipal spokesperson, Ntswaki Makgetha, authorities anticipate opening an additional three sluice gates daily between 10:00 and 14:00 during this period.
“The City’s Disaster Management Team will be closely monitoring the situation throughout the rainy season, and we urge residents to exercise extreme caution,” Makgetha said.
