Alleged repeat offender FS SAPS detective nabbed

A 58-year-old Free State detective attached to the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit in Fouriesburg was nabbed after police exhibits, case dockets and ammunition were allegedly discovered at his Bethlehem home.

The officer is an alleged repeat offender was arrest on Friday, 28 November 2025 following an intelligence driven operation by members the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, prompting investigators to obtain a search warrant.

The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Fikiswa Matoti said during the search, officers reportedly found SAPS exhibit bags containing cellphones, used buccal samples, unfinished dockets, police registers and ammunition. She said the items were seized and the detective was immediately taken into custody.

“This is the second time the same officer has been arrested this month. Earlier in November, a search at his residence allegedly uncovered an unlicensed firearm. He appeared in court and was later released on bail,” she said.

Meanwhile the Hawks provincial head, Major General Mokgadi Bokaba, has since landed the arrest of the officer.

Bokaba said the directorate will continue acting against criminality within law enforcement. “The Hawks remain committed to rooting out criminality within law enforcement and ensuring that those who betray the badge are held accountable,” she said.

The detective is expected to appear in the Bethlehem Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of illegal possession of ammunition and suspected stolen property.
