The Potchefstroom-based JB Marks Municipality in the North West is urging residents of Ventersdorp near Tshing to brace a planned 12 hour long power outage on Wednesday, 3 December 2025.
The municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, said the planned power outage is due to a critical infrastructure upgrades at the Ventersdorp Main Intake Substation.
Tshite said the power supply will be switched off from 06:00 to 18:00, affecting several areas including the Town Area, Tshing Township, Toevlug, Moosa Park, Boikhutso, Boikhutsong, Appledraai and surrounding farming communities.

According to Tshite, the interruption is required to install and commission a new 11kV breaker panel and to integrate a newly constructed 11kV overhead line supplying Tshing Ext 10. “The entire substation must be shut down for the safety of operators while the new breaker is coupled to the existing panel board,” she explained.
She cautioned that electricity might be restored earlier than expected and urged residents to treat all electrical installations as live during the outage.
The Municipality apologised for the inconvenience and encouraged the public to plan accordingly.
