Yet another Free State road carnage claims lives after three people were killed and two others moderately injured in a horrific T-bone collision on Saturday night in Welkom.
The accident occurred at about 20:25 at the Z.R. Mahabane and Bronville Crossing intersection, where emergency services, law enforcement and fire rescue teams rushed to the scene.
According the emergency medical services spokesperson Sipho Towa the to preliminary reports indicate that three occupants were declared dead on the scene, while two others sustained moderate injuries and received urgent medical attention from paramedics. Towa said the fire services also worked to extricate individuals who were trapped inside the wreckage.
“Authorities have urged motorists to be extra cautious when travelling through the area, warning of possible delays as rescue and clearing operations continues,” he said.
Authorities have since issued an alert and extended condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic crash.
News Junction previously reported that ten people died whilst dozens more were left injured after an Interstate Bus Lines coach collided with a heavy motor vehicle on the N8 near Botshabelo outside Bloemfontein early on Saturday morning of 15,November 2025.
The crash occurred at about 06:50am, roughly 32 kilometres east of Bloemfontein in the Free State. The bus, numbered 4075, had been travelling from Botshabelo A Section towards the city when the collision took place.
Emergency response teams at that time confirmed that 19 passengers had sustained minor injuries while three suffered moderate injuries and all were transported to Botshabelo Hospital. Two additional passengers with moderate injuries were taken to Busamed Hospital, and six critically injured passengers were rushed to Pelonomi Trauma Hospital.
In 2022, scores of passengers were killed after a bus from the same bus liner also got involved an accident with a truck that traveled from Klerksdorp in the North West. Dozens were also left injured.
