SANEF said Phasiwe served South Africa across both the media and public sectors.

He started his journalism career as a financial journalist, working for publications including Business Day and Business Report.
He earned a reputation for insightful reporting and analysis before moving into communications.
From 2015 to 2019, Phasiwe served as Eskom’s national spokesperson and senior communications adviser during one of the power utility’s most difficult periods.
During those years, his voice became familiar to millions of South Africans as the country battled repeated power cuts and load shedding.
But his career stretched far beyond Eskom.
He also held communications and spokesperson positions at the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) and the Public Protector South Africa.
At the time of his death, Phasiwe was serving as Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications at Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS).
SANEF said: “The South African National Editors’ Forum mourns the passing of Khulu Phasiwe, a respected journalist and communications professional who served South Africa across both the media and public sectors.”
The forum extended its condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who worked alongside him.
Phasiwe leaves behind a career that crossed journalism, government communications and major public institutions.
His contribution to the media and communications industry will be remembered.
