North West Legislature big wings to storm Ngaka Modiri Molema

Big trouble is coming for lazy officials!

Officials and contractors in Ngaka Modiri Molema District are set to come under the spotlight as the North West Provincial Legislature rolls out its Oversight Week from Tuesday to Friday.

Members of the legislature will visit projects and facilities across the district to check whether government promises are being delivered to residents.

And some officials won’t know when the legislature is coming.

Community Safety and Transport Management portfolio chairperson Freddy Sonakile will conduct unannounced visits in Ramotshere, Ditsobotla, Tswaing, Ratlou and Mahikeng during the week.

The North West Provincial Legislature said the programme is aimed at strengthening oversight, public participation, accountability and transparency.

Legislature spokesperson Namhla Luhabe said Members of the Provincial Legislature will interact with different provincial departments and their MECs, mayors, accounting officers and members of Municipal Public Accounts Committees.

“Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs portfolio chairperson Kgalalelo Makgokgowa will inspect housing and water projects, including the Maloka/Gaanalaagte Human Settlements Project, Doornlaagte Housing Project, Borakalalo Water Project, Bodibe Water Supply, Ramabesa Human Settlements Project and Setlagole Bulk Water Supply, “she said.

Education portfolio chairperson Priscilla Williams will visit schools, libraries and recreational facilities, including Mpolokang High, Mokgakala Secondary, Tlhoafalo Secondary, Gothand Secondary, Laerskool Mareetsane, Upper Setlagole Primary, Masephe Primary, Tiego Tawana High and Mmabatho Stadium.

Health portfolio chairperson Karabo Magagane will visit clinics and hospitals, including Zeerust Town Clinic, Ntsweletsoku Clinic, Motswedi Clinic, Gelukspan Hospital, Kopela Clinic and Rietvlei Clinic.

Meanwhile, Agriculture portfolio chairperson Sipho Dial will inspect Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccination sites and crop massification projects.

Public Works and Roads portfolio chairperson Paul Sebegoe will inspect several road projects, while Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism portfolio chairperson Mpho Khunou will visit tourism sites including Madikwe and Manyane game reserves and the Baberspan Bird Sanctuary.

The oversight programme will run from 6 to 9 October across the district.
