IKAGENG MURDER SUSPECT TO FACE COURT

The man accused of stabbing his 33-year-old girlfriend to death in Ikageng near Potchefstroom is expected to appear in court tomorrow.

The 29-year-old suspect, who was arrested on Sunday, 27 September, is expected to appear before the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 29 September.

North West police spokesperson Captain Majang Skalkie confirmed the arrest.

“A 29-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday, 27 September 2026,” said Skalkie.

The suspect is facing a murder charge following the death of the woman on Saturday night.

Police allege the couple were at the suspect’s home when an argument broke out at about 7pm.

The suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the woman before fleeing the scene.

Police opened a murder case and launched a manhunt for the suspect.

His arrest came a day after the alleged killing.

The case has also brought back painful memories for the Ikageng community, which is still mourning the death of nine-year-old Karabelo “Mmeke” Seripe.

Karabelo went missing on 18 September and her body was found the following day in a field near Sarafina Sports Ground.

She was allegedly raped and murdered.

No suspect had been arrested in Karabelo’s case at the time of publication.

The latest murder has added to residents’ concerns about violence against women and children in the community.

The 29-year-old suspect is expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday, where the State is expected to place the allegations before the court.
