A deadly head-on collision between a light truck and a sedan claimed one life and left three others injured on the N1 near Verkeerdevlei early on Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 07:25, where they found the two vehicles extensively damaged after colliding head-on.
Paramedics declared one person dead on the scene, while three moderately injured occupants were stabilised and transported to Pelonomi Trauma Hospital in Bloemfontein.
RIMS Free State Chairperson Sipho Towa said the incident highlights the continued need for vigilance on major routes. “We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased,” Towa said.
He added that the roadway has since been cleared and traffic is flowing normally.
