South Africa’s economy is showing signs of recovery despite persistent challenges, offering renewed hope as the country prepares to usher in a new year, President Cyril Ramaphosa said in a message reflecting on national progress and unity.

The President said improving economic performance, driven by the efforts of workers, entrepreneurs and professionals, is strengthening the country and laying a foundation for future growth.

“Despite the challenges we face, our country is getting stronger and our economy is improving,” President Ramaphosa said. “As we prepare to welcome a new year, let us remain united in building the South Africa of our dreams.”

The President praised South Africans across all sectors for their contributions over the past year, saying the nation’s spirit has been lifted by outstanding achievements on the global stage.

He singled out artists, musicians, writers and sportspeople for flying the national flag high and showcasing South Africa’s talent and resilience to the world.

Ramaphosa also extended gratitude to workers, entrepreneurs, businesspeople and professionals, noting that their efforts continue to drive economic recovery and national development.

He paid tribute to young people, describing them as the future of the country whose energy, creativity and skills are vital to renewal and progress.

In his address, the President acknowledged the central role played by women, calling them the backbone of the nation, and honoured men and women in uniform for their service in protecting the country.

He also recognised civil servants for serving communities with diligence and respect, and thanked doctors, nurses and healthcare workers for their commitment to keeping South Africans healthy and saving lives.

Ramaphosa further commended public representatives as guardians of democracy and traditional leaders as custodians of South Africa’s rich heritage and moral conscience.

He expressed solidarity with people living with disabilities, praising their resilience and reaffirming government’s commitment to easing their burdens.

The President also saluted the media for keeping the nation informed, and acknowledged elders for their continued guidance and wisdom. He extended appreciation to sportsmen and women whose performances have united the nation and inspired pride on the world sporting stage.

Addressing social challenges, Ramaphosa issued a renewed call to action against gender-based violence and femicide. “I call upon the men of South Africa to respect and honour the young girls and women of our country, and to desist from gender-based violence and femicide,” he said.

Concluding his message, the President thanked all South Africans for their contributions over the past year and wished citizens a happy and blessed new year. “Wherever you may be across our beautiful land, may God bless South Africa and protect its people,” Ramaphosa said.
