12 senior police officers busted in R360m tender scandal

12 senior police officers, including generals and brigadiers, were arrested over an alleged corruption scandal linked to a R360 million Medicare 24 tender.

The arrests were carried out on 24 March 2026 by the National Prosecuting Authority Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).

COURT APPEARANCE

According to IDAC spokesperson Henry Mamothame all the accused, including a company director linked to Medicare 24, are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.

The susowcts will face charges of corruption, fraud, contravention of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), money laundering and misuse of public funds

GENERALS AND BRIGADIERS ARRESTED

According to ActionSA Member of Parliament (MP) Dereleen James, the arrests include high-ranking police officials.

“They’ve just arrested all the crooks — generals and brigadiers involved in the R360 million tender. ActionSA will release a statement tomorrow morning,” she said.

James said the charges include fraud, money laundering and misuse of public funds.

MADLANGA COMMISSION LINK

The arrests come amid growing controversy within the police and government. Recently, Cyril Ramaphosa established the Madlanga Commission to investigate allegations that politicians were interfering in police operations.

The allegations were made by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who claimed politicians were influencing police work and targeting specialised police units.
